Get involved in the campaign to save Laurentian

In an appalling move, 60 academic programs at Laurentian University have been cut, including core academic subjects throughout the sciences, social sciences, arts, humanities, and health sciences, as well as professional programs. Over 100 faculty members, including tenured professors and Canada Research Chairs, had their employment terminated without severance.

This assault on northern, bilingual, and Indigenous education represents a failure of leadership by Laurentian's administration, and by the provincial government that oversaw the erosion of funding to public universities. More information is available from the Canadian Association of University Teachers and the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations.

UWOFA's Board of Directors will discuss concrete actions that we can take to support our colleagues at Laurentian. For now, members are encouraged to consider getting involved in the campaign to save Laurentian. There are a number of ways to do so, including:

"Rally On Wheels" Friday, April 30 with in-person events in cities across Ontario and Canada, plus online participation here;

Signing this petition from the Ontario Federation of Labour and/or this open letter from Academics in Support of Laurentian University;

Keeping the conversation alive in your networks;

Sign-up sheet to be notified of organizing activities, hosted by Honor Brabazon of the University of Waterloo

Recording of "Laurentian: What Can We Do?" event
