Every Budget Is A Choice 4.0

(London, Ont)Western’s current financial position offers important context as UWOFA approaches a new round of collective bargaining with the Employer. The evidence shows that while Ontario universities are facing real funding pressures, Western remains in a strong financial position, with the capacity to invest in faculty and support its academic mission. The issue is not a lack of resources, but how those resources are being allocated.

Western has generated consistent surpluses, exceeded its own tuition projections, and accumulated significant reserves, even as student enrolment has grown faster than investment in full-time faculty and compensation continues to lag behind peer institutions.

As UWOFA prepares for bargaining, these financial realities matter. The choices the Employer makes in this next round will help determine whether its financial decisions align with its stated commitment to academic excellence.
