About Johanna

I'm an associate professor in the DAN Department of Management and Organizational Studies. I came to Western in 2012 after working for four years at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I have pretty varied research interests, but they share the themes of worker voice, representation and control.

I've written about the working conditions of video game developers, the experiences of labour representatives on pension trustee boards, women's experiences with parental leave in academia, and underemployment. I teach industrial relations and also project management.

I'm rounded out in life by two kids, a self-employed spouse and two cats. I've recently taught myself the ukulele because it is hilarious. I'm very proud to be a member of UWOFA. A colleague once called me a red diaper baby and I suppose he's right. Both my parents were unionists, I've marched in demonstrations all my life and I believe strongly in workers' rights, equity, and the power of collective action. I'm really excited about what we can do together.
