Western Librarians & Archivists Reject Deal

The UWOFA librarian and archivist membership has voted to reject the tentative collective agreement that was reached with the university administration on October 7.

In a vote that closed today, 74% of the members of the bargaining unit voted to reject the agreement.

The members rejected the deal amid concerns that it did not address the serious erosion of librarian and archivist complement; their numbers have fallen by over 20% in the past 10 years.

Members also believe that a three year deal would allow them to come back to the table after the wage restraints contained in the proposed Bill 124 has ended.

The bargaining unit remains in a legal strike position.

Please watch for further Bargaining Bulletins about the status of UWOFA-LA negotiations in the days ahead.
