Librarians and Archivists Ratify Agreement with Western Administration

(London, ON) - Librarians and archivists of UWOFA voted Monday to ratify a new collective agreement with Western University Administration.

Members of the bargaining unit voted 89 per cent in favour of the deal in a vote that closed today.

The bargaining round was overshadowed by the pending Bill 124 that proposes limits to public sector wages; however, the new contract provides adequate compensation increases and makes important gains regarding benefits.

The administration will also work with the bargaining unit to set up a Librarians and Archivists Forum as a way to increase the unit’s voice in the governing of the library system at Western.

“This deal is an important achievement for librarians and archivists at Western,” said UWOFA President, John Ciriello. “The administration heard our concerns and took steps to address the key issues of professional autonomy &governance, workload, and fair compensation.”

The contract will now go to the University Board of Governors for ratification.
