Bargaining Bulletin: A Collective Agreement

The UWOFA Librarians and Archivists began negotiations for a new contract almost seven months ago; and with a lot of hard work, and the support of the faculty and our friends, they have successfully completed the process. The Western Board of Governors ratified the tentative agreement on November 21, 2019, and the librarians and archivists now have a collective agreement.

Our bargaining team were able to negotiate a deal that was both fair and equitable. The new collective agreement makes gains on our key goals of collegial governance, complement and fair compensation.

But when it comes to negotiations, UWOFA’s team also had the help and support of many people working behind the scenes. The Strike Action Committee put in countless hours. Our hard working UWOFA staff, with their institutional memory and their indomitable spirit were always there with help and assistance. Faculty members also stepped forward to lend a hand. UWOFA did not stand alone as many friends across the country voiced their support. The Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) and the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) provided advice and support throughout. Locally, the London and District Labour Council had our back, as did the UWO Staff Association (UWOSA) and PSAC610 who joined us at rallies.
