April Advocacy Update

UWOFA has been involved with...

Employee Assistance Plan advocacy

Western is considering a new provider for its Employee Assistance Plan and is currently reviewing proposals. UWOFA president Dan Belliveau sent a letter to the administration supporting Thames Valley Family Services, the university's current Employee Assistance Plan provider. Thames Valley Family Services is a locally run non-profit organization that faculty colleagues have noted provides excellent care. The Employee Assistance Plan provides support for emotional well-being and addictions, child and elder care resources, and other services.

Support for Scholars at Risk

UWOFA members have approved an additional $30,000 donation over three years to the Scholars at Risk program at Western. This marks the second $30,000 donation by UWOFA since 2016. Scholars at Risk is an international network of postsecondary institutions whose mission is to protect scholars under threat due to the nature of their research and ideas. Western is a member of the Canadian section of Scholars at Risk and has hosted four scholars.
